This is from Fightnews:

Castillo-Casamayor at Mandalay!
It's official: Two-time world lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo will defend against former champion Joel Casamayor on a Top Rank championship card at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, December 4. Bob Arum of Top Rank made the announcement this evening. Castillo, 50-6-1, 45 KOs, is from Empalme, Sonora, Mexico. He won the WBC world lightweight title for the second time when he fired off very hard combinations, piled up early-round points and defeated rugged Juan Lazcano on June 5 in Las Vegas. Casamayor, 31-2 with 19 KOs, is a former WBA super featherweight champion. He has a record of 7-2-0 in world title bouts which include two fiery championship bouts against Diego 'Chico' Corrales. Born in Cuba, Casamayor now lives and fights out of Miramar, Florida. In another televised bout, live on Showtime, IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy will defend against Omar Sheika. That championship bout will be promoted by Gary Shaw Productions.

I have a good initial gut feeling about this fight. I think that Castillo is probably too much man for Casamayor and that he can probably knock him out. I'm suprised that Casamayor's people let him take this fight. Maybe they see something that I dont. According to boxrec Castillo is the bigger guy at 5"8 to Casamayors 5"6. Castillo just seems like alot bigger than Casamayor to me. I was really impressed with Castillos last win against Juan Lazcanzano. The guy has an unbelieveable chin and hits hard. He ran into a problem with an excellent fast slick boxer but I think he can handle pretty much anything else. I think he's a pretty underrated guy.

I just dont see how Casamayor can get the better of the exchanges with him. I think Castillo can take his punch and I think that he can probably hurt Joel. I also think that Casamayor will be the favorite in this fight. So I think that we might have a live dog here. I'd like to here some opinions on this asap - before the books put a line up on this fight. If they post Casamayor as a favorite I want to be able to hammer it right away if I want to take Castillo. I just want to hear what my esteemed colleagues think.

I am with you on this one buddy. This is the first I have heard of this fight. Castillo would win either a decision or KO him. Too good all around I feel. I havent seen a line up for this one yet, but I will be looking.
BTW, I dont know where all of the boxing cappers went, but if you want to talk boxing with some knowledgeable people, shoot me an email. Later buddy

Sounds good, good to hear that someone else is thinking the same way. Pinny or 5dimes should have a line up on it pretty soon.

just reading the proposed undercard, looks like an easy fight for Lacy. Im sure he will be a sizeable favorite, but I think he will pummel Sheika..

I will send out the Casa vs Castillo number on tuesday. Been passing kidney stones over past 3 days otherwise it would be up already. :guillotin I planned on opening it this week, but I have been in extreme pain. Anyon ethat had them can relate. 5 on right side and 2 on left. I prefer death at times.

***Just a hint, if you see Castillo at plus money anywhere early, you would be wise to bet it fast. It shouldnt be there long. You are correct however in Lacy being a large favorite. I don't know what it is about guys like Sheika nd Jeremy Williams in that they keep getting overrated by the organizations. May well be the largest 'title fight' number in some time.

Good luck.

....

What I am saying is that Joey is still responsible for about 95% of the openers. The other 5% would be 5 dimes (on obscure **** like Dimitrenko-Purrity), and bet 365.The rest come from him.

Remember when I said that if I lose this play I might be outta the game? Well I think that I might be leaving. This was a 12k swing for me. Jesus am I glad Castillo got the decision. But do me, Spinch you can call em and I cant. I thought Joel easily won this fight,

I gotta go out right now and have some fun but jesus. I lost, plain and simple.
I hate Bob Arum but I think that I love him now.

Thanx Bob

i think it was close.....i think that castillo closed stronger...i think that i`m getting damned tired of these lazy f-cking refs...american refs...doing absolutely zilch in the ring...and getting renumerated for being lazy, shiftless sloths who basically don`t understand the rules or the intent of the rules...

i think that dave moretti is in somebody`s pocket....117-111?......that`s beyond bizarre...that`s blatantly,purposefully wrong...of that i`m sure...

and i`m glad you got it home,almly....seriously...

casamayor did way to much holding down the stretch....there was way to much wrestling and b.s. in the fight...ditto lacy/sheika.....

i`m still pissed that in the fight that i parlayed "sheika/lacy doesn`t go the distance" with the closest thing to a lock i`ve seen in years(over 7.5 in krasniqi/hoffmann),that sheika, the "mickey ward" of the super middleweight division, decides to do his best john ruiz impression.....

tony weeks and vic "dracula"(dracula?...yeah,he might be deceased...he refs like rigor mortis has set in) are embarrassments...

and i only heard lacy`s incompetent corner ***** once.....

if i trained lacy, they would have had to pry me off tony weeks....i would have been suspended for life because i would have hurt him or he would have hurt me.....

and the smart bet would have been on him getting hurt.....

incompetent,lazy,shiftless p-ick......

i almost closed the show tonight...instead,i won about a bottle of thunderbird...

We were ringside for this mess. In spite of Castillo actually losing, I still had to cash my winning ticket on him. Omar gave Lacy fits and I feel it was very close, if not a draw or Sheika win. My wife keeps asking me why Sheika is grabbing and holding Lacy-so he don't get hit of course. Not an enjoyable thing to watch, but they let this crap go on constantly. If Castillo fights Corrales, who was sitting in front of us, I will lay mucho denaro on Chico. Castillo fights like a numbnut. Of course, Casamayor's lateral movement did cause him many problems. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
